Scholarly Communication and Data Curation Librarian/Assistant Professor

The St. John’s University Libraries seeks applications from innovative candidates to act as its Scholarly Communication and Data Curation Librarian.  Reporting to the Dean of University Libraries, the Scholarly Communication and Data Curation Librarian will support scholarly communication and data curation endeavors of faculty, researchers, students, staff, and librarians working locally and globally. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting library-led initiatives including the development and management of an institutional repository and development and implementation of an electronic theses and dissertations (ETD) program. The Librarian will provide leadership in the area of data curation on behalf of the Libraries and work with faculty researchers to identify, recruit, ingest and deposit data in the library’s digital repository. The successful candidate will play a significant role in outreach to the research community to deposit data in the digital repository and the creation of training programs, help guides and web resources to support this effort. The Librarian will also be responsible for providing leadership in areas related to digital publishing, copyright, intellectual property, open access, open education and other emerging trends in digital scholarship. The individual will monitor trends and developments in scholarly communication and act as a liaison to national efforts in the area (such as SPARC and HathiTrust). The incumbent will also develop outreach and educational programs that promote scholarly communication in furtherance of both the University and Libraries mission. This tenure track faculty position requires self-motivated and continual learning, professional development, and application of additional expertise in these and related areas.

 Primary Responsibilities:
Manage the implementation, promotion and use of the St. John’s University institutional repository (Digital Commons).
Develop policies, programs and practices supporting electronic publishing, the institutional repository, e-portfolios, and electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs).
Monitor scholarly communication trends and developments and serve as liaison to national efforts in this area.
Provide University faculty, students, staff, researchers and librarians with guidance and resources concerning copyright, fair use, open access (OA) and open educational resources (OER).
Provide guidance on appropriate metadata standards and quality to improve discoverability of repository content.
Work collaboratively with all stakeholders to raise awareness of and participation in digital initiatives, as well as coordinate training and marketing for such initiatives.
Act as the point person for the data curation efforts.
Design and implement policies, workflows and technical processes involved in managing the lifecycle of digital datasets.
Provide guidance and instruction on discovery, acquisition and use of research data in the public domain.
Provide research assistance, reference, and instruction.
Serve on University and Library committees.
Secondary Responsibilities:
Act as liaison to academic departments relevant to subject background and expertise.
Supervise staff and students as needed.
Provide collection development within subject areas.

Required Qualifications
ALA-accredited Master’s degree or an equivalent combination of a relevant advanced degree and experience.
At least four years relevant experience in an academic, research or special library.
Demonstrated knowledge of or direct experience working with or managing an institutional repository inclusive of an ETD program.
Demonstrated knowledge of or direct experience working with or managing research data.
Knowledge of information technologies, standards and best practices prevalent in digital or data curation.
Knowledge of metadata formats, including Dublin Core, MODS, METS, and data exchange protocols such as SWORD and OAI-PMH.
Knowledge of technologies for data management and curation, and familiarity with preservation principles and practices.
Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to present and share ideas clearly and effectively to a diverse audience.
Ability to work independently and effectively with others as a team within a diverse and complex organization.
Demonstrated time management and project completion skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Second master’s degree is highly desirable and is required for appointment at the Associate Professor level.
Experience documenting workflows and procedures.
Experience in identifying researcher information needs and in creating effective services to meet those needs.
Demonstrated experience in the acquisition and management of born-digital or digitized library, archival, or research materials.
Demonstrated commitment to customer service.

Job Summary    
The University of Kentucky Libraries seeks a creative, collaborative, and experienced library professional with an ability to provide innovative services through the position of Digital Humanities Librarian. The successful candidate will serve as an academic liaison and support current and emerging methods of research and scholarly production in the humanities. The Digital Humanities Librarian will identify trends and activities in digital humanities on campus, provide digital scholarship support services, and promote UK Libraries’ commitment to the creation and dissemination of scholarship.
Reporting to the Director of Digital Scholarship, the Digital Humanities Librarian will explore and promote new models for digital publishing, participate in research data management initiatives, and serve as a resource person for scholarly communication issues. Responsibilities will include working collaboratively with colleagues throughout UK Libraries and the campus to advance the content development and management of UKnowledge (http://uknowledge.uky.edu), the university’s institutional repository. The Digital Humanities Librarian will develop and conduct workshops on digital scholarship resources, metrics, and best practices. The Digital Humanities Librarian will participate in outreach and campus engagement activities that build partnerships and cultivate relationships with key university units.
The Digital Humanities Librarian will provide subject-specific leadership for collection building and management, as well as promote library collections, programs, and services. As an academic liaison, the Digital Humanities Librarian will teach curriculum-integrated library instructional sessions and conduct in-depth research consultations in assigned subject areas. With a solid understanding of current research resources and technologies, the Digital Humanities Librarian will develop and maintain online research and course guides. Active engagement with faculty and students in assigned subject areas will be essential.
The Digital Humanities Librarian will participate in shared governance of the University of Kentucky by serving on library, departmental/college, and university committees as appropriate. The Digital Humanities Librarian will pursue scholarship, professional development, and service activities in order to meet requirements for tenure and promotion.
Position is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position.

Scholarly Communications Librarian

Gettysburg College’s Musselman Library invites a service-oriented librarian to join its growing Scholarly Communications department. Our library is a dynamic organization where every staff member makes a difference. We serve a small, liberal arts community of 2,600 students.The Scholarly Communications Librarian plays a key role in providing and expanding library services related to open access, Open Educational Resources, and library publishing. This newly-created position will oversee sustainable growth and management of our established institutional repository, The Cupola, as well as promotion, outreach, and education for various campus constituents. The position will provide primary support for library publishing activities, which currently include five undergraduate journals. The position will also provide education and support to faculty who adopt, adapt, and create Open Educational Resources. This librarian joins a growing department dedicated to supporting scholarly communications and digital scholarship.
Like all librarians, the Scholarly Communications Librarian will participate actively in collection development, serve as liaison to one or more academic departments, serve on library committees, participate in a weekly rotation at the research help desk, and benefit from continuing education and professional development opportunities. Scholarly Communication and Publishing Department
Located in the Suzzallo and Allen Libraries, the Scholarly Communication and Publishing Department has system wide responsibility for copyright, electronic theses and dissertations, open access initiatives, and outreach to Libraries staff and the University community on matters relating to scholarly publishing.
The position
The Scholarly Publishing Outreach Librarian is the Libraries’ coordinator and chief resource on copyright-related scholarly communication and information policy issues as they pertain to Libraries services and initiatives. Under the general direction of the Director, Scholarly Communication and Publishing, the position will play an essential role in the new department by developing programs, strengthening outreach and advisory services, and providing support for UW authors and users of copyrighted material. The Scholarly Publishing Outreach Librarian works collaboratively with UW Libraries and campus partners and also participates as a team
member in support of a broad range of scholarly communication support services including open access and electronic theses and dissertations.
Specific responsibilities and duties
Serves as the Libraries’ chief resource for copyright and permissions issues, acts as liaison with the University’s legal counsel and represents the Libraries to the University in copyright matters.
Advises faculty, staff, and graduate students about such copyright issues as authors’ rights, fair use, copyright compliance, and other issues regarding the rights of creators and users of original works of authorship, especially works of scholarship.
Advises UW faculty and staff on copyright issues related to the submission of works to the University’s institutional repository, ResearchWorks Archive.
Advises Libraries staff and partners on copyright issues associated with digitization projects.
Advises UW instructors and Libraries staff on copyright issues associated with open educational resources.
Leads the Libraries’ efforts to develop and promote copyright education programs and copyright best practices among faculty, researchers and students.
Monitors state, national, and international trends in copyright law.
Participates in active outreach to increase awareness among faculty, researchers, students, and staff about a broad range of scholarly communication issues including copyright, open access publishing, electronic theses and dissertations, and authors’ rights.
Works with liaisons/subject librarians to develop educational materials to increase awareness among faculty, researchers, and students about scholarly communication issues.
Maintains the Libraries’ scholarly communication and copyright web presence.
Qualifications
Required
Graduate degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association or an equivalent graduate library science/information studies degree.
A minimum of two years post-MLIS professional academic library experience, with evidence of increased responsibilities.
Demonstrated broad knowledge of the scholarly publishing enterprise and scholarly communication trends, issues, and best practices in academic research libraries.
Experience working with copyright law and intellectual property questions in an academic environment.
Experience providing scholarly communication services to faculty and students in an academic research library.
Strong oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, enthusiasm for instruction and communicating emerging issues.
Demonstrated experience working well with colleagues.
Demonstrated experience using technology to communicate and manage online content.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity and understanding of the contributions a diverse workforce brings to the workplace.
Preferred
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.

Journals and Serials Strategic Manager

This new role will be part of a new leadership team in the Press and Scholarly Publishing Division of the Purdue University Libraries. Reporting to the director of Purdue University Press (PUP) and head of Scholarly Publishing Services (SPS), and working with the other strategic managers reporting thereto, the Journals and Serials Strategic Manager oversees the retention, publication, and management of all journals (with journals broadly defined to include all serial publications by PUP and SPS, including select annual or recurring conference proceedings). In collaboration with the Press Director and other managers, the Journals and Serials Strategic Manager takes the lead on strategic planning for PUP/SPS journals and serials; fosters an environment of continual innovation and process improvement; contributes to the success of others; and facilitates beneficial change in the division.In addition to direct reporting responsibility of project editors who work on journals and serials for PUP/SPS, the Journals and Serials Strategic Manager has indirect reporting responsibility of all managers and staff who work on journals and serials, as the Journals and Serials Strategic Manager is charged with ensuring that all journals and serials published by PUP and SPS receive the best services. This role offers the successful candidate the opportunity to take full ownership of a swiftly growing journals program and to inform the trajectory of such a program in an innovative press that sees publishing differently.

Open Publishing/Collections Librarian

This position at the Syracuse University Libraries leads the Libraries’ open publishing services for the University community.  The position develops, champions, and assesses business models for open publishing, broad technical requirements, partnerships, strategy, and necessary policies and procedures. The position helps the Libraries serve the University not only as its principal buyer and lessor of scholarship, but by enhancing its global reputation through open distribution of its scholarly and creative works. 
The position leads Syracuse University’s institutional repository (SURFACE) and manages a variety of projects to produce high-quality digital publications in multiple genres and formats.  The position provides outreach and support for open publishing initiatives, including open journals; provides copyright services on the Libraries’ behalf; promotes author rights to University researchers, and promotes the development and adaptation of open educational resources. It also shapes connections between instructional programming and scholarly communication through the development of new collaborative partnerships and through assisting faculty and researchers to make greater use of services provided via SURFACE.
 
This position requires:
•          At least 1 year of experience in an academic library or research setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience
•           At least 2 years plus digital scholarly publishing experience – ideally in an open context
•           Strong understanding of contemporary developments in digital publishing, open access initiatives, open educational resources, and the open publishing landscape, including copyright and other author’s rights
•           Strong knowledge of contemporary developments in digital research
•           Demonstrated experience with scholarly editorial practices
•           Experience with repository software, services, and functional development
•           Solid budgetary and management experience
•           Strong analytical skills and experience with statistical tools, including producing reports, visualizing data and communicating findings

Job Description
As part of the Boston College Libraries team of librarians, the E-Scholarship Repository Librarian works to make academic research produced at Boston College visible and available to anyone, throughout the world, free of charge. Reporting to the Head, Scholarly Communication & Research Services, the E-Scholarship Repository Librarian maintains, promotes and enhances our eScholarship@BC repository and participates in other library publishing ventures. The Librarian explores new directions and tools to improve our repository services and to support open access. The Librarian supervises the work of the Digital Publishing Assistant.
The E-Scholarship Repository Librarian is the primary administrator of an active and essential Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETDs) deposit program. The Librarian conducts outreach and establishes working relationships with graduate program directors across the University regarding ETD deposit policies and processes. She/he develops content and conducts workshops, physical and virtual, to instruct student degree candidates about the ETD program. This Librarian takes a lead role in developing new interfaces and services for students and in communicating policies for ETDs.
The E-Scholarship Repository Librarian works with the faculty, Research Centers, and the subject liaison librarians to collect scholarly materials for eScholarship@BC and creates and directs the publications deposit and display features of the repository. This Librarian collaborates with other departments, including Digital Initiatives, Library Systems, Digital Scholarship and Scholarly Communication, to help shape a continuously evolving and responsive organization.
Requirements
Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent graduate degree
2 years post MLS experience, preferably in an academic library setting
Detailed knowledge of copyright, fair use and open access
Proficiency with web authoring tools and other web and database applications 
Working knowledge of library metadata standards (familiarity with MODS preferred) 
Experience with open source repository software (Fedora preferred)
Experience with, or ability to learn, XSLT and other scripting languages 
Project management skills 
Familiarity with a CMS such as Drupal preferred
Supervisory experience preferred
