Data and eScience Librarian

Purpose: The Data & eScience Librarian will provide leadership and vision for the development, implementation, and operationalization of UTA Libraries’ initiatives that assist faculty and students navigate eScience data-related issues, including data discovery, analysis, visualization, and management. The scholar in this position will work as an intellectual partner with faculty, students, and staff using data in their research and teaching. Working with these constituencies, and in collaboration with librarians, archivists, and staff throughout the Libraries, this librarian will increase the Libraries’ ability to collect, preserve, and provide access to research data. This position also provides guidance on the use of data and datasets as well as expertise in support of published data repositories such as ICPSR, and supports users requiring assistance with statistical software. The Data and E-Science Librarian will serve as a partner and resource person for librarians and archivists involved in facilitating faculty and student e-research.Essential Functions: 
Develop and provide consultation services for faculty and students on eScience data-related issues, including data discovery, analysis, visualization, and management. 
Partner with subject liaisons to assess the practices of researchers relating to data creation, use, and preservation. 
Collaborate with the Social Sciences Data Librarian, the Digital Humanities Librarian, the Systems Librarian for Data Management & Curation, the Director of Scholarly Communication, and the Department Heads of Outreach & Scholarship and Digital Creation to develop an integrated set of data services supporting UTA researchers and research teams. 
Plan and conduct eScience and data management professional development opportunities for subject liaisons specific to their assigned departments. 
Act as primary liaison to a STEM department. 
Maintain expertise with issues related to scholarly communication such as copyright, open access, and data management and preservation. 
Participate in university-wide initiatives related to data creation, use, and preservation. 
Marginal/Incidental Functions: Other functions as assigned. 
Required Qualifications:
An ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS degree or advanced degree in sciences, data curation, or related discipline 
An understanding of the research process as demonstrated by academic or work experience. 
Demonstrated experience with data management and curation services, with particular focus on research practices relating to data discovery, analysis, visualization, and management. 
Competency with data analysis software, including SPSS, SAS, and R.
Familiarity with data management requirements of federal agencies. 
Strong commitment to user services and support.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, subject librarians, archivists, digital project librarians and others in order to advance e-research. 
Must possess excellent oral and written communication, leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills.

RDS operates in 4 key areas: 1) Education, Awareness and Community Building, 2) Technical Infrastructure, 3) Policy and Strategy, and 4) Consultation and Services.
The responsibilities of the Research Data Curation Librarian will fall in all key areas; the initial focus of this position will be to contribute to the development of the data repository in collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders, in the library and across campus.

Responsibilities* 
While partnering with colleagues at the U-M Office of Research, Information Technology Services, Advanced Research Computing, as well as academic programs, institutes, departments, and colleges across campus, the Research Data Curation Librarian will:
Work with researchers to curate and archive data 
The Librarian will work with researchers to identify, recruit, ingest and deposit data in the library’s digital repository, adhering to local policies and national and international standards and best practices.
The incumbent will play a significant role in outreach to the research community to deposit data in both the digital repository or appropriate subject repository, as well as creating training programs, help guides and web resources for Data Education and RDS for internal and external audiences.
When necessary the Librarian will consult with researchers on metadata standards and data sensitivity characterization.
Create, support and sustain technical infrastructure 
In collaboration with key partners, will act as the Research Data Services point person for the data repository.
Investigate integrative infrastructures to connect campus needs to the repository.
Design and implement workflows, and execute technical processes involved in managing the lifecycle of digital datasets including data transformation projects.
Work with campus stakeholders on larger data collections issues 
Serve as a consultant to researchers and librarians on data issues and services.
Perform data management planning with principle investigators and researchers.
Assist in the development and delivery of training and instructional materials on data curation.
Provide guidance and instruction on discovery, acquisition and use of research data in the public domain.
Engage and participate in all aspects of the RDS and library services as appropriate 
Participate in research data management consultations, data curation activities and the development of resources, documentation and instructional content about data curation.
Participate in selected cross-library working groups to create and improve services.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications*
ALA-accredited Master’s degree or an equivalent combination of a relevant advanced degree and experience.
Demonstrated knowledge of or direct experience working with or managing research data.
Knowledge of information technologies, standards and best practices prevalent in digital or data curation.
Ability to articulate roles in the research data ecosystem.
Knowledge of technologies for data management and curation, and familiarity with preservation principles and practices.
Ability to work independently and effectively with others as a team within a complex and fluid organization. Ability to work well in a multicultural and collaborative environment.

Position Description.

Manage the daily operations of our digital publishing tools, including the institutional repository-Mason Archival Repository Service (MARS)-and our LUNA digital asset management system;

The Emory Center for Digital Scholarship (ECDS) invites applications for a post-doctoral fellowship in Digital Humanities Publishing beginning September 1, 2015. The position is available for one year with a possible renewal for a second year at the discretion of the ECDS. We welcome candidates who hold (or will hold by May 2015) a PhD in an interdisciplinary humanities field and, given the scope of the fellow’s duties (below), a terminal degree in music. Expertise in nineteenth and twentieth century US southern hymnody is preferred. Applicants should have received their PhD no earlier than January 1, 2013, and should have experience with scholarly digital humanities projects. We particularly encourage candidates whose digital humanities experience includes editing and publishing digital scholarly editions and who possess an awareness of recent technological developments in digital scholarly editing and publishing.
The postdoctoral fellow will be in residence at Emory University. The stipend for the fellow is $50,000 annually (plus benefits). The fellow’s duties will include coordinating the editing and annotation of a digital scholarly edition featuring an exemplary text drawn from the corpus of nineteenth and twentieth century US southern hymnody. The fellow will also coordinate the development and adaptation of a tool to facilitate the publication of an edition of this work. The fellow will work with a competitively selected group of scholars to supervise the editing of a series of digital scholarly editions in the area of nineteenth and twentieth century US southern hymnody focusing on the renowned collection of Emory University’s Pitts Theology Library. The fellow will report to the co-directors of the ECDS.

Digital Projects Librarian

Position Details: Reporting to the Systems/Emerging Technologies Librarian, this position is responsible for heading the Library Digital Projects Lab, including the selection, prioritization, digitization, preservation and access to unique, world-class Wesleyan collections for the use of students, faculty and researchers.

Supervise the operations of the Library Digital Projects lab, including the work of lab student workers and/or interns. 
Work with Special Collections & Archives, the World Music Archives, library liaisons,Academic Computing Managers, and faculty to select and prioritize for digitization unique Wesleyan collections for use in student and/or faculty research and assignments. 
Work with the University Archivist, Head of Cataloging and others to make accessible and preserve digitized collections, ensuring that they meet emerging national standards and comply with copyright and privacy laws. 
Establish digitization policies and procedures, and share these with other digitization initiatives within and outside Wesleyan. 
Develop and maintain professional relationships within the CTW Consortium and other institutions, exploring the possibilities of sharing processes, staff, and collections. 
Keep abreast of trends in the creation, maintenance and migration of digital collections, with a view to improving procedures, preservation and access. 
Participate in library and University committees and initiatives as appropriate. 
Minimum Qualifications: 
Master’s degree in library science required.
1-2 years’ experience working with library systems in an academic library, and a high degree of comfort learning new systems and processes. 
Demonstrated ability and experience collaborating with a variety of constituencies within an academic institution.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively online and in person using a variety of media.

Smith College is accepting applications for a Digital Scholarship and Scholarly Communication Librarian. Reporting to the Director of Teaching, Learning and Research, this position leads digital scholarship initiatives for the Smith College Libraries’ Teaching, Learning and Research (TLR) department, working closely with colleagues engaged in the development of digital scholarship at Smith. Promote the adoption of new models of scholarship at Smith by developing methodologies and tools of the digital humanities and social sciences for research, teaching and learning. Provide instruction and consultation services for digital projects, and serve on project teams. Facilitate the use of library content for digital scholarship creation by faculty and students. Serve as a resource for other TLR librarians who are engaged in digital scholarship; provides training and consultation. Keep abreast of new developments in digital scholarship and scholarly communication in the humanities and social sciences, and promote awareness among colleagues. As a member of the Teaching, Learning and Research department, conduct general reference, outreach, library instruction/information literacy, collection development and liaison activities. 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
Education/Experience: Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program. Advanced degree or background in a discipline of the humanities or social sciences preferred. At least 2 years of experience working with faculty or students on digital scholarship projects; teaching experience, especially on the undergraduate level; and experience with the provision of library reference and research assistance to patrons. 
Skills: Ability to select, implement and evaluate emerging tools of digital scholarship. Demonstrated familiarity with current issues of scholarly communication and the ability to convey these complex issues to a diverse audience. Demonstrated project management skills. A strong commitment to public service; knowledge of current issues and methods of library instruction/information literacy; excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to work flexibly, independently and collaboratively with colleagues and library users in a rapidly changing service-oriented environment.

Position Summary: 
The Director, Research and Informatics reports to the Associate Dean for Research and Informatics and manages operations for library programs, services, educational opportunities, and campus collaborations that support the research mission of the university. As a member of the Libraries’ senior leadership team, the Director, Research and Informatics contributes to library-wide planning and policy making and helps to shape strategic directions for the Libraries. 
The division of Research and Informatics includes scholarly communication, data curation, and technology development units that oversee consulting, instruction, digital services, and digital library development activities in support of the university’s intellectual contributions and research processes. Strategic priorities for the division emphasize research environmental assessment, embedding digital curation processes in research environments, and providing leading digital curation and preservation solutions for the campus community.
Responsibilities include:
Directs, manages, and assesses selected research and informatics programs and services
Fosters positive communications and effective working relationships between research and informatics faculty, staff, students, and campus partners
Coordinates research service activities that include consulting in informatics, digital curation, and preservation
Leads collaborative development of policies and processes that continuously develop and refine digital curation of library stewarded collections
Leads the evaluation and adoption of new research and digital curation tools and approaches
Develops and recommends action on memoranda of understanding and service level agreements
Coordinates with library personnel on public relations and marketing activities and to further develop and refine the web presentation of research and informatics programs and services
Supervises selected research and informatics library faculty and staff
Leads teams, projects, and meetings
Possibility of serving as the library liaison to the department of computer science, developing collections and providing research consultations
Required Qualifications:
Master’s or other advanced degree
Three years of progressively responsible management and supervisory experience in library or information-related services
Knowledge of trends in scholarly communication practices and information and data sharing policies; knowledge of trends in research administration in higher education 
Experience with technology management and research consultations 
Demonstrated capacity to direct research services and activities in an academic library
Ability to successfully supervise, train, and mentor research and informatics faculty and staff; demonstrated leadership qualities to be an effective director and member of the Libraries senior leadership team
Knowledge of digital curation processes and digital repository and publishing platforms
Successful experience leading and working with diverse teams across departments and disciplines
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple complex projects simultaneously
Excellent analytical, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree or other advanced degree with an emphasis in information science, informatics, or computing
Professional experience working in an academic library
Experience managing or directing research services and activities in an academic library
Successful teaching experience
Successful grant proposal development
Successful experience supervising librarians
Evidence of creativity or creative solutions in transforming libraries in the digital age
Experience with campus-wide projects and planning
Evidence of professional accomplishments, publications, and experience appropriate for continued appointment in the library faculty

Position Summary: 
The Repository Collections Specialist (RCS) assumes responsibility for the growth and management of collections for the institutional repository, VTechWorks. Under the general supervision of the VTechWorks Librarian and according to relevant digital library and archival standards, the incumbent will process materials; create, submit, organize, and maintain collections; and oversee and conduct quality control for the repository. Processing may also entail describing materials following locally adopted metadata standards, linking files, and assessing copyright status. The RCS will assist with refining and documenting policies, procedures, and repository activities; identifying potential materials for the repository; designing workflows for single and batch uploads; serving as a consultant to VTechWorks users in the Virginia Tech community; and supervising student assistants who help process materials for the repository.
Required Qualifications: 
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent level of experience and/or training; experience working with digital repositories and/or collections; experience providing customer services in an education, library, or similar environment; demonstrated proficiency with office applications, such as word-processing, spreadsheets, and databases; knowledge of metadata standards and digital libraries; proficiency with Adobe Acrobat; ability to effectively use library databases; strong time management and project completion skills; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to make independent judgments and decisions within general guidelines; ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment; excellent communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications: 
MLS or relevant advanced degree; considerable experience managing digital library projects; proficiency with command line interfaces and scripting; experience working in a UNIX environment; familiarity with preservation formats for various digital media; familiarity with bibliographic citation software such as EndNote, Zotero, Mendeley, or RefWorks; working experience in an academic library or large public library system; experience with digital repository software such as DSpace or Fedora; familiarity with issues in scholarly communication; working knowledge of metadata standards such as Dublin Core, MARC, or METS; experience with XML, HTML, CSS, and XSLT; supervisory experience.

Scholarly Communications Outreach Coordinator

The Hofstra North Shore – LIJ School of Medicine is seeking a Scholarly Publications Librarian for the Office of Library Services. The Office of Library Services serves the information needs of all faculty, students, and staff of the School of Medicine and develops services in collaboration with the other Hofstra University libraries as well as the libraries at the North Shore-LIJ Health System. The successful applicant will have responsibility for working closely with faculty and administrative staff to implement databases and support scholarly publishing initiatives promoting the academic mission of the institution. The Scholarly Publications Librarian will implement a continuously updated and comprehensive faculty publications database to be utilized for various accreditation and reporting functions, building upon the existing annual publications databases. Analyzes and reports on the impact of the institution’s scholarly publishing using multiple bibliometric and data sources at both the individual faculty and departmental level, developing standardized metrics of success for academic scholarship in collaboration with appropriate stakeholders. Collaborates with the Information Technology and Academic Affairs staff as well as faculty to develop and maintain a website interface for scholarly publications integrated with faculty Bio’s. Promotes the academic mission of the School by effectively displaying in publicly accessible and discoverable formats the academic scholarship of the faculty. The Scholarly Publications Librarian will also develop plans for potential implementation of an institutional repository including options for dissemination and preservation of the full text of scholarly work, as well as data management. 
Qualifications:
Graduate library/information science degree from an ALA-accredited institution, or equivalent, and a minimum of two years professional library experience, preferably in a science-oriented academic or research facility.
Demonstrated expertise in searching bibliographic and citation databases including PubMed and Web of Science.
Demonstrated ability and interest in working collaboratively with faculty, research staff, and information technology staff. Proficiency with Excel or other spreadsheet platforms.
Demonstrated expertise in developing web content.
Familiarity with the NIH Public Access Policy and compliance tools.
Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as presentation skills.
Evidence of initiative and flexibility in implementing projects whether independently or as part of a team.
