In addition to its library publishing program, the University of California is also the home of the University of California Press. While we have distinct areas of focus and emphasis, eScholarship Publishing and UC Press have partnered over the years on many projects including the development of a digital critical edition platform, a digital-first book production system, and an inventory of all publishing activities across the UC system. We also regularly refer potential publishing projects.
  • Program’s openness to working with external partners: Consider external partners but only if in our disciplinary specialty
  • Types of publications should other publishers refer to your program: eScholarship publishes over 90 academic journals that span academic disciplines and share a commitment to the open distribution of knowledge and research, including international publications led by UC faculty, flagship publications representing UC research units, law reviews affiliated with UC law schools, and campus-specific undergraduate journals. eScholarship also supports the open access publication of books, monographs, and conference proceedings and hosts preprint servers.

Additional Information

Last Year:
eScholarship Publishing is transitioning its open access journal management system from OJS to Janeway. The effort involves the migration of over 90 journals, and is offering an opportunity to work with these journals on updating their author agreements, workflows, policies, and branding materials. In addition, we have recently expanded our publishing capacity by launching a University of California systemwide eScholarship Liaisons group that partners with eScholarship staff to serve the scholarly communication needs of the UC academic community, reaffirming the value of institution-based open access publishing/repositories and supporting the development of eScholarship services in response to user requirements and stakeholder goals.
Future Plans:
eScholarship Publishing is incorporating the work of the newly released UC Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Scholarly Communication toolkit in its journals program through editorial training. We plan to incorporate DEIA topics in future workshops on peer review, ethics, accessibility tools and processes, copyediting best practices, and more.
