Program Overview

Mission/Objectives:
We offer open access publishing opportunities to more comprehensively support, record, and promote the scholarly activities of faculty and students, providing opportunities for creating and widely disseminating new scholarship by faculty from our own and other institutions. We seek to educate researchers and community members about the larger contexts of open access and their options in terms of making their scholarship widely available, accessible, and discoverable, through our institutional repository and other platforms.

We still consider ourselves in the early stage, but within the past year have published the UD Press's first fully OA volume, as well as our first OER textbook created by a UD faculty member. Additional Information

Last Year:
We have recently added two new employees, an open educational resource (OER) publishing librarian and a publishing coordinator, who are already making strong contributions to our program. We are in the midst of a Mellon grant that will result in an open access publication developed within the Manifold platform, and we are adding a publication track to our existing OER Publishing Grant program. In the past year, the UD Press published its first open access title via the UDSpace Institutional Repository, and the broader publishing program released its first OER, created in Pressbooks.
Future Plans:
In addition to the new OER publishing track, we will be making Pressbooks available to faculty campus wide to create OER and/or other open publications. The University of Delaware Press will be publishing open access versions of some of its titles via the Manifold platform.
Other Information:
We expect significant growth within our program within the next two years!
