Program Overview

Mission/Objectives:
UJ Press was established in October 2020 under the auspices of the UJ Library. The press started publishing Open Access journals on the Open Journal System (OJS). In October 2021, the Press set up an Open Monograph Press (OMP) and started publishing books in print, electronic and audio formats. UJ Press publish titles in all disciplines including issues surrounding 4IR and the UN SDGs. The Press also publish co-publications with international publishers, translated titles, digital scholarship including video and audio scholarly outputs and Open Access textbooks. Lastly, it will publish data sets, 3D assets and other digital formats with their publications.

    Last Year:
    We have now completed two years of operation and became profitable at the end of year two.
    Future Plans:
    We are looking to become a separate legal entity for the University of Johannesburg but will still be based in the UJ Library. We will add staff members as the list grows and revenue allows.
