Program Overview

Mission/Objectives:
The VIVA Open and Affordable Course Content Initiative investigates and supports sustainable educational resource and access models that enable equitable and inclusive learning, give faculty control over instructional materials, and lower the costs of higher education for Virginia students. As a part of the larger initiative, VIVA Open Grants empower teaching faculty to contribute to the field of open course materials by providing awardees with the tools they need to produce openly licensed course materials, including funding, platforms, and publishing support.

Additional Information

Last Year:
In 2023, VIVA restructured our Open Grant program to include publishing support for grantees in partnership with an external publishing services provider, Knowledge Works Global (KGL). Content creation grants can now take advantage of peer review management, copyediting, layout, and more.
