Background
The STFC Scientific Computing Department has a  programme of development and support of large scale data management through the research lifecycle for STFC funded facilities (e.g. ISIS, CLF, DLS) and is looking to improve provision of services which support the long-term management of data which underpins the academic publication. Thus we are looking to recruit a highly motivated individual to join the team within the Research Data Group working in this area.
List of Duties / Work Programme / Responsibilities
You will participate in software development for systems and tools which enable the discovery and re-use of scientific data. These duties will include:
• Capture of user requirements 
• Creation of data discovery tools and services  through system analysis, design, implementation, testing and support 
• Maintenance and further development of existing data and publication management and discovery tools
Appointment at a higher band will be expected to lead design activities, be responsible for delivering systems, be responsible for quality assurance, and manage interaction with end users, as well as develop future business opportunities.

You will need to have good communications skills to ensure that they can communicate effectively with all stakeholders from team members to potential end-users.

You will require excellent analytical and problem-solving capability, good technical expertise, good written and verbal communications skills, and the ability to show sound judgement. 
Any other Relevant Information
There is a requirement for travel within the UK to other STFC sites.
Shortlisting Criteria 
Essential: 
Degree in a computing or technical subject or equivalent relevant experience.
Programming experience (e.g. Java, C/C++, python). Significant experience required for band E
Desirable: 
Experience of developing/supporting repository products such as DSpace
User requirements analysis and evaluation * for Band E 
User interface design experience
Domain experience in either (a) Scientific data management or (b) Digital library and & information science systems
Interview Criteria
As above plus
Essential: 
Experience of best practice software development lifecycles
Ability to demonstrate application of knowledge and experience to this role.
Good verbal and written communication skills 
Ability to work independently and within a team
