Job Description:
We are seeking to fill a new Publishing and Open Repository Administrator position at the University of Tennessee Libraries. This role will oversee systems that make the research of the University of Tennessee more accessible, useful, and open. Reporting to the Head of Research Impact and Open Access, this position will play a critical leadership role as the platforms we use will be under active development, including a transition to an open-source infrastructure. Facility in a programming language such as Python, Ruby, or JavaScript will be required in contributing to the development of the publishing services we offer.
This position manages the daily operations for the institutional repository and the journal publishing service and ensures an excellent user experience. These services are an important contribution to campus goals to promote UT scholarship and research worldwide and to increase our local and global impact. This position designs and develops service strategies, technical solutions, communication workflows and policies for the publishing services delivered by these systems. This position tests and assesses the success of these services.
Administration of these platforms supports many different user types and activities, including administration, faculty, staff, students, journal editors, researchers, and journal contributors across campus and beyond. Success in this position depends on excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. It will be necessary to develop materials related to teaching and training on the use of these systems, as well as applying best practice standards to publishing workflows. This position works with a wide range of research projects, metadata, data, text, video, and output formats.
The position independently identifies and resolves complex technical problems related to these platforms. Through active fostering feedback from stakeholders, data, and awareness of professional trends, this position will judge competing priorities and policies to deliver responsive products. This has primary responsibility for explaining complex concepts clearly and leading communication with internal groups, managing vendor relationships, and serving users at the institution and around the world.
With key responsibilities in the areas of institutional repository administration, publishing platform administration, and program and service development, this position will join the Research Impact and Open Access department and work collaboratively with multiple library departments in the development and delivery of publishing services.
