Position Summary: 
The Repository Collections Specialist (RCS) assumes responsibility for the growth and management of collections for the institutional repository, VTechWorks. Under the general supervision of the VTechWorks Librarian and according to relevant digital library and archival standards, the incumbent will process materials; create, submit, organize, and maintain collections; and oversee and conduct quality control for the repository. Processing may also entail describing materials following locally adopted metadata standards, linking files, and assessing copyright status. The RCS will assist with refining and documenting policies, procedures, and repository activities; identifying potential materials for the repository; designing workflows for single and batch uploads; serving as a consultant to VTechWorks users in the Virginia Tech community; and supervising student assistants who help process materials for the repository.
Required Qualifications: 
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent level of experience and/or training; experience working with digital repositories and/or collections; experience providing customer services in an education, library, or similar environment; demonstrated proficiency with office applications, such as word-processing, spreadsheets, and databases; knowledge of metadata standards and digital libraries; proficiency with Adobe Acrobat; ability to effectively use library databases; strong time management and project completion skills; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to make independent judgments and decisions within general guidelines; ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment; excellent communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications: 
MLS or relevant advanced degree; considerable experience managing digital library projects; proficiency with command line interfaces and scripting; experience working in a UNIX environment; familiarity with preservation formats for various digital media; familiarity with bibliographic citation software such as EndNote, Zotero, Mendeley, or RefWorks; working experience in an academic library or large public library system; experience with digital repository software such as DSpace or Fedora; familiarity with issues in scholarly communication; working knowledge of metadata standards such as Dublin Core, MARC, or METS; experience with XML, HTML, CSS, and XSLT; supervisory experience.
