Application Deadline extendedGrand Valley State University Libraries, a recipient of the 2012 Association of College and Research Libraries’ Excellence in Academic Libraries Award, seeks energetic and innovative applicants for a Scholarly Communications Outreach Coordinator position, responsible for the overall management and direction of the Libraries’ scholarly communication program and repository services. The person in this position reports to the Head of Collections and Scholarly Communications and provides outreach to GVSU community on scholarly communications issues and services and leads the Libraries’ efforts to support new models of scholarly communication. Responsibilities include advocating for alternatives to traditional publishing models, working with faculty and liaison librarians in identifying and adding materials to the repository, serving as a primary point of contact on copyright issues, and developing and providing University-wide educational opportunities for sharing information about scholarly communications, open access, copyright and institutional repositories. Promotes and administers the Libraries’ Open Access Publishing Support Fund.
The successful candidate will contribute to the libraries’ overall leadership team. Required qualifications include a Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited institution or equivalent; experience working in higher education or an academic library setting; knowledge of current issues and trends in scholarly communications, open access publishing, and data management and sharing; knowledge of current issues regarding intellectual property, copyright, and fair use; ability to plan and manage projects and project teams; ability to understand and manage theneeds of various constituencies, including faculty, students and other administrative offices; excellent written and verbal communications skills; ability to be flexible and manage change; ability to adapt to emerging practices in higher education and scholarly publishing. Experience working with the Digital Commons institutional repository platform or other digital publishing tools and knowledge of current metadata schemas and standards preferred.
