The University of Iowa Libraries seeks a dynamic, innovative, and accomplished professional for the position of Head, Digital Research & Publishing (DRP).DRP is a library department whose mission is to explore ways that academic libraries can best leverage digital collections, local resources, and staff expertise to support faculty, researchers, and student scholars in their own research and scholarly activities. DRP collaborates on interdisciplinary scholarship built upon digital collections, offers publishing services to support sustainable scholarly communication, partners with faculty to develop innovative curriculum projects around digital initiatives, engages the community through participatory archive initiatives, and explores new technologies such as geospatial applications, data publishing, and linked open data. DRP provides strategic oversight for the Iowa Digital Library, Iowa Research Online, and several digital editions published by the University Libraries.
Reporting to the Senior Associate University Librarian, the Head of DRP has direct administrative responsibility for the department’s strategic planning, staffing, and daily operations. This position serves as a senior advisor to library management and interacts extensively with other campus units and library departments on issues related to digital research and publishing. The successful candidate must be able to work collaboratively, think strategically, lead effectively, negotiate solutions among diverse stakeholders with competing interests, and articulate the evolving role of a modern academic library.
Specific responsibilities include:
Manage all aspects of the department, from strategic planning to daily operations.
Supervise and mentor staff.
Plan and manage projects: define goals, develop budgets and timelines, effectively coordinate staff and technology resources, maintain vendor contacts, and work with subject specialists, IT professionals, designers, and public relations staff.
Identify and pursue relevant funding opportunities.
Oversee locally created digital repositories (Iowa Digital Library and Iowa Research Online).
Work collaboratively with faculty to promote and support digital publishing and open access, in close collaboration with the Digital Studio for Public Arts & Humanities.
Develop and oversee programming and engagement activities in collaboration with campus partners.
Build awareness of and support for the management and preservation of digital publications and related materials including research data.
Monitor trends in digital scholarship and digital library programs to ensure that Iowa adopts new and emerging technologies for the benefit of campus scholars and for the public good.
Participate in developing and helping to shape the library’s strategic plan.
Encourage experimentation and risk-taking in digital scholarship projects as part of professional growth and innovative service to faculty and students.
Contribute to the profession through research, publishing, teaching, and/or service.
Participate in and contribute to relevant library and University-wide activities and committees.
Represent the University Libraries in campus-wide and inter-institutional initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Advanced degree (master’s or above) in a field related to the position (e.g., MLS from an ALA-accredited institution, MA with a certificate in digital humanities, PhD in a related discipline with a digital collections emphasis).
For the Specialist Librarian level, three or more years of experience with increasing responsibilities in one or more areas related to digital research and publishing, 6 or more years for the Expert Librarian level.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Experience planning and managing projects and project teams.
Demonstrated knowledge of emerging trends in digital scholarship.
Demonstrated ability to work creatively in a rapidly changing environment.

Strong public speaking skills in an academic setting.
Start date is negotiable. Appointment will be made at the Specialist (II) or Expert (III) Librarian level, depending on qualifications. Salary ranges: Specialist Librarian $47,000 – $60,000; Expert Librarian $55,000-$76,000. Brief Description of Duties: The Supervising Programmer/Analyst is responsible for managing the library systems administration and library’s technical infrastructure. Boston College Libraries seeks TWO creative, knowledgeable, and intellectually curious Digital Scholarship Librarians (Arts & Humanities, and Sciences & Social Sciences) to advance digital scholarship initiatives at Boston College by providing  consultation, technical support, and project management for faculty, librarians, staff, and students engaged in technology-rich scholarly projects, Under the direction of the Associate University Librarian for Digital Initiatives & Public Programs, and in conjunction with subject and instruction liaisons, systems and digital library staff, scholarly communications and repository librarians, and others, s/he works directly with clients (faculty, students, staff) in identifying and deploying appropriate tools and technologies to meet research or publication needs. In addition to direct support at the project level, s/he will deliver training, group instruction, and workshops on Digital Scholarship topics with an emphasis on data visualization, text mining and encoding, mapping, and data analysis, and will maintain project documentation for a growing corpus of digital scholarly production. This role requires exceptional technology skills, creativity, and communication skills, and an understanding of discipline-specific and interdisciplinary research methodology. The ability to listen, articulate problems, and find effective technology solutions across a variety of disciplines, while working with a range of clients from novice scholars to senior faculty, is essential.
Requirements
MLS from an ALA accredited program with a strong technology component. Minimum 2 years related work in developing and supporting digital content in an academic environment required. Preferred: additional graduate degree in a) the arts or humanities, b) sciences or social sciences. Walker Library at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) seeks candidates for the position of Digital Scholarship Librarian. This position will be responsible for advancing and supporting library programs for development of an Institutional Repository, digital collections and services in support of digital scholarship, including a graduate and faculty digital scholarship laboratory. Provides leadership and engages with campus academic departments, centers and individual faculty directly and through Library liaisons to encourage inclusion of scholarly materials in the Institutional repository, identify opportunities to support faculty and student digital scholarship and build partnerships for the creation of digital collections. The Digital Scholarship Librarian will work in a highly collaborative environment with Walker Library staff and faculty and staff of archival centers in other administrative units. This position reports to the Dean of Walker Library.
Responsibilities: 
Develop strategic plans, budgets and manage ongoing projects in concert with members of the library and archive partnership. 
Knowledgeable on issues of copyright and rights management in relationship to digital publication. 
Establishes and documents campus wide technical and metadata standards for digitization and digital collections. 
Coordinates the development of a new institutional repository with the overall digital collections projects 
Within the library, effectively work with a cross department project team in collaboration with the Heads of User Services, Collection Development and Management and Library Technology to plan, implement and manage digital projects, including the underlying technology infrastructure. 
Leads efforts to obtain and manage grants and outside funding in support of digital initiatives. 
Coordinates the collaboration between Walker Library and campus archival centers in the development and implementation of digital scholarship project. 
Participate in professional service and research activities in support of promotion and tenure requirements.

Job Summary/Basic Function:
Reporting to the UNT Dean of Libraries, the Director for Library Publishing will lead the development and operation of a prospective innovative program for collaborative publishing based in the UNT Libraries. Working closely with the Dean and other UNT stakeholders, the Director will provide overall leadership for the initiative, coordinate planning and operations for the UNT Libraries’ publishing programs. The Director will undertake a variety of activities to plan and build the proposed library publishing program, as follows. The positions is a temporary two-year appointment, with the possibility of subsequent reappointment. 
Identify and plan opportunities for library publishing endeavors; collaborative activities led by and based in the UNT libraries to support the creation, dissemination, and curation of scholarly, creative, and/or educational works, especially those that represent innovative yet sustainable new approaches to scholarship. Examples include online journals and on-demand print run items. 
Work collaboratively with UNT stakeholders including the UNT Press, Digital Scholarship Cooperative, Digital Libraries division, other library divisions, and UNT faculty on library publishing opportunities. 
Prepare grant applications in collaboration with other UNT stakeholders to generate start-up funds for library publishing endeavors. 
Generate new revenue streams for the UNT Libraries and Press through entrepreneurial activities, especially those that expand access to archival collections (both analog and digital). 
Provide expertise and advice regarding new primarily digital approaches to publishing, including conversion from plain text to XML, layout and typesetting, graphic design, and conceptualizing new digital forms of scholarship. 
Scope, plan, and manage prospective library publishing workflows for students and grant-funded specialists. 
Act as liaison between UNT and national Library Publishing Coalition. 
Engage in outreach efforts on the emerging topic of library publishing, including presentations to the UNT community and external groups.  
Minimum Qualifications:
MS/MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited program 
At least five years of professional experience in successful library publishing efforts. 
Strong knowledge of publishing and innovative approaches to publishing. 
Expertise and knowledge of advanced digital library systems, especially those supporting publishing efforts. 
Demonstrated aptitude for entrepreneurial planning in digital library efforts.

PROFILE of the LIBRARIES DIVISION
This position is located within the Libraries’ Division of Logistics and Resources Distribution Services (LRDS). LRDS provides the Libraries’ functions of collection and content development and management, access and delivery of resources and bibliographic and metadata services. The LRDS Division includes the management of the high profile Digital Scholarship@UNLV institutional repository.
ROLE of the POSITION
The UNLV University Libraries’ collections are key to enhancing the teaching, research, and community engagement mission of the university. Given the rapid migration of scholarship and scholarly dissemination into the digital age, it is essential that the University Libraries continuously innovates to collect, manage, and deliver digital scholarly resources. The UNLV research collection of the future requires the integration of commercial digital content with rapidly emerging born-digital scholarship products such as data, websites, blogs, images, and multimedia.
The Head of Digital Scholarship Strategy is a newly created role tasked with developing content strategies aligned with our priorities to provide access to the latest digital scholarly resources, capture unique UNLV scholarly output, and integrate born-digital scholarly products into our collecting portfolio. This role will work through a library wide collections team that includes faculty from across the Libraries with designated collecting responsibilities such as Library Liaisons, the Director of Special Collections and the Head of Collection Management. The team will clarify collecting scope and responsibilities across all collecting areas and will identify and engage cross- organizational expertise in the collection, infrastructure, description and delivery of digital content
Reporting to the Director of LRDS this position will
Serve as a member of the LRDS leadership team, participating in overall management, strategic planning and operation of the division, its staff and its functions.
Lead the investigation and implementation of new strategies for collecting, managing, and preserving digital scholarly content and new forms of scholarly output, including but not limited to data sets, multimedia, blogs, images, and websites.
Identify, acquire, preserve, manage rights, and provide discovery for the research outputs for UNLV created scholarly products, including managing the staff and resources charged with the creation and growth of the institutional repository, Digital Scholarship@UNLV
Lead Libraries investigation of data acquisition with a special focus on determining the kinds of data appropriate for libraries acquisitions and the role of the Libraries in data lifecycle management for the campus.
Assist in collecting content in all formats that documents the region.
Stay abreast of emerging technologies, alternative publishing models, scholarly communication. developments and related legislative initiatives. Propose new initiatives as appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONSRequired: A master’s degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association; experience as a supervisor of professional library staff in an academic library; minimum of two years experience building academic library collections in a research library setting; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a variety of individuals and groups; demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize, coordinate, implement and lead projects; understanding of the purpose and scope of institutional repositories, including issues, policies, service models, and strategies for securing appropriate content; knowledge of scholarly communication issues, Open Access initiatives, intellectual property and copyright issues, and new forms of publication and research activities; experience with defining and implementing data strategies in academic libraries; experience working effectively across an organization to achieve multiple strategic objectives; excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred: Demonstrated knowledge of digital content and metadata standards; knowledge of current digital collection platforms such as BePress, DSpace, CONTENTdm, and/or other repository tools; reputation, and scholarship record sufficient to meet criteria for appointment as a tenured faculty member.
SALARY RANGE
This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position at Rank II or III (equivalent to an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor). Salaries are competitive with those at similarly situated institutions and dependent upon labor market. Position is contingent upon funding.
