Job Description:
APPOINTMENT: Review of applications will begin immediately for the spring 2015 semester and on January 2 for the fall 2015 semester, and will continue until the position is filled. Fellowships are awarded annually at the beginning of each semester.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Fellows will work half-time library workloads in areas of interest to the fellow and of need by the library. Fellows in particular are sought who have an interest in scholarly communication, open access, institutional repositories, and digital preservation.  Fellows will be expected to devote significant time to the completion of a second master’s degree. Fellows will also work with a faculty mentor and will be involved with co-curricular activities including the University’s cultural diversity initiatives.  Excellence in teaching, research/creative activity and service is expected for all positions.  WIU seeks qualified candidates who are committed to using integrative technologies in teaching.
RANK & SALARY: Fellows will receive faculty appointments for two academic years and will be eligible for benefits including health insurance.  The salary is $35,000.  Fellows must be eligible for employment.  Additionally, fellows will receive support for research, professional travel, and other related expenses.  It is expected that fellows will not be employed outside of the University or receive additional fellowships or awards during the fellowship period unless approved by the University.  Western Illinois University offers a competitive benefits package including domestic partner benefits. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Fellows must have successfully completed a master’s level degree in library science from a regionally accredited college or university.  Once selected as a fellow, candidates must be enrolled in a second master’s program (in order to meet the minimum requirements for a tenure-track faculty library position).  Ideally, the second master’s degree should be earned in a discipline taught at WIU.  
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: We are particularly interested in applications from individuals who are underrepresented or are representative of disciplines in which individuals are underrepresented, whose research highlights diversity, or those who are in a field working with traditional underrepresented groups. We also are looking for individuals with experience in diverse educational programs and environments and a willingness to participate in WIU’s diversity initiatives.

THE DEPARTMENT: WIU Libraries employs 16 faculty and 42 civil service staff in the Leslie F. Malpass Library, 3 on-campus branch libraries and one at the WIU-Quad Cities Campus.  The Libraries’ collection includes over 1,000,000 catalogued volumes, approximately 2,000 periodical print subscriptions, access to over 22,500 full-text journals, 300,000 maps and substantial government documents, microforms, and non-book materials.  The annual budget is $4.5 million.

WIU-Quad Cities (Student Population: 1,204): The only public university in the Quad Cities area, WIU-QC offers select undergraduate and graduate programs, including a doctorate in education, at its metropolitan, non-residential campuses in Moline, IL (population 44,000). Metadata and Cataloging Librarian

The George Mason University Libraries seeks a creative, collaborative, and energetic librarian to complement its Resource Description and Metadata Services Department. The department is currently transitioning to an era of greater flexibility in processing electronic and nontraditional library materials and the adoption of new standards. The successful candidate will serve as the primary resource for non-MARC metadata and will play a vital role in establishing practices and standards for non-MARC metadata creation across the libraries.
Responsibilities:
Duties Include: establishing procedures for creation and maintenance of metadata for digital and nontraditional library collections; working with other library departments to establish procedures for metadata creation; perform quality control on metadata for digital collections; transform metadata using XSLT for ingest into our institutional repository and digital collections platform; maintaining knowledge of current description standards such as RDA, Linked Data/BIBFRAME, and emerging metadata standards; guiding and training library staff in adoption of these trends; and serving on library committees and teams as assigned; may manage student assistants. As a member of the RDMS department, the successful candidate is also expected to catalog some library materials using traditional rules (RDA, LCSH, LCC, MARC21, NACO authority work, etc.). This position reports to the Head, Resource Description & Metadata Services.
Required Qualifications:
An ALA-accredited MLS or ALA-recognized foreign equivalent at the time of appointment
Demonstrated experience with Dublin Core, MARC21, AACR2, RDA, LCSH, LCC
Experience transforming XML metadata with XSLT
Experience with an XML editor such as Oxygen
Familiarity with authority work
An understanding of controlled vocabularies, taxonomies, and ontologies
Good organizational skills & attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications:

Position Summary: 
Manages and supports the publishing services, operations and web presence for the Center for Digital Research and Scholarship (CDRS) collections. With knowledge of 21st century libraries, evaluates technologies and implements improvements for digital publishing and hosting services. Trains faculty, staff, and students in the university community to use open source publishing software hosted by the library. Creates documentation and training materials. Contributes to the development of publishing services policies.
Interacts with faculty, researchers and other members of the university community to support their publishing enterprises. Works with journal editors and conference organizers to establish and maintain publishing and proceedings workflows, editorial processes, and reader/author services. Troubleshoots workflow and technical issues as needed. Collaborates with VTechworks Librarian and Repository Collections Specialists to ensure access to appropriate publications through VTechWorks, the library-managed institutional repository service. Evaluates user satisfaction with CDRS digital publishing services and resources, recommending changes and/or new services. Hires and supervises student assistants. Periodically gathers data and prepares reports for CDRS publishing services.
Required Qualifications: 
Bachelor’s degree in a field complementary to publishing and library service. Experience working with online resource management. Experience with HTML code and web site maintenance. Familiarity with CSS (cascading style sheets) and SSI (server side includes). Experience with basic office software and Adobe Acrobat. Working knowledge of digital file formats, metadata, database applications, file uploading, and data migration. Effective communication skills. Time management skills and demonstrated project collaboration experience. Familiarity with Macintosh working environment. Must be adaptable in an evolving online environment.
Preferred Qualifications: 
Master’s degree in library, computer, or information science. Experience working in an academic library. Experience with open source software, publishing, and project management. Experience with Adobe Photoshop or similar image manipulation software and graphic design. Knowledge of web accessibility standards. The University of Iowa Libraries seeks a dynamic, innovative, and accomplished professional for the position of Head, Digital Research & Publishing (DRP).DRP is a library department whose mission is to explore ways that academic libraries can best leverage digital collections, local resources, and staff expertise to support faculty, researchers, and student scholars in their own research and scholarly activities. DRP collaborates on interdisciplinary scholarship built upon digital collections, offers publishing services to support sustainable scholarly communication, partners with faculty to develop innovative curriculum projects around digital initiatives, engages the community through participatory archive initiatives, and explores new technologies such as geospatial applications, data publishing, and linked open data. DRP provides strategic oversight for the Iowa Digital Library, Iowa Research Online, and several digital editions published by the University Libraries.
Reporting to the Senior Associate University Librarian, the Head of DRP has direct administrative responsibility for the department’s strategic planning, staffing, and daily operations. This position serves as a senior advisor to library management and interacts extensively with other campus units and library departments on issues related to digital research and publishing. The successful candidate must be able to work collaboratively, think strategically, lead effectively, negotiate solutions among diverse stakeholders with competing interests, and articulate the evolving role of a modern academic library.
Specific responsibilities include:
Manage all aspects of the department, from strategic planning to daily operations.
Supervise and mentor staff.
Plan and manage projects: define goals, develop budgets and timelines, effectively coordinate staff and technology resources, maintain vendor contacts, and work with subject specialists, IT professionals, designers, and public relations staff.
Identify and pursue relevant funding opportunities.
Oversee locally created digital repositories (Iowa Digital Library and Iowa Research Online).
Work collaboratively with faculty to promote and support digital publishing and open access, in close collaboration with the Digital Studio for Public Arts & Humanities.
Develop and oversee programming and engagement activities in collaboration with campus partners.
Build awareness of and support for the management and preservation of digital publications and related materials including research data.
Monitor trends in digital scholarship and digital library programs to ensure that Iowa adopts new and emerging technologies for the benefit of campus scholars and for the public good.
Participate in developing and helping to shape the library’s strategic plan.
Encourage experimentation and risk-taking in digital scholarship projects as part of professional growth and innovative service to faculty and students.
Contribute to the profession through research, publishing, teaching, and/or service.
Participate in and contribute to relevant library and University-wide activities and committees.
Represent the University Libraries in campus-wide and inter-institutional initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Advanced degree (master’s or above) in a field related to the position (e.g., MLS from an ALA-accredited institution, MA with a certificate in digital humanities, PhD in a related discipline with a digital collections emphasis).
For the Specialist Librarian level, three or more years of experience with increasing responsibilities in one or more areas related to digital research and publishing, 6 or more years for the Expert Librarian level.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Experience planning and managing projects and project teams.
Demonstrated knowledge of emerging trends in digital scholarship.
Demonstrated ability to work creatively in a rapidly changing environment.

Duties:
● Builds and promotes the Institutional Repository (IR), recruiting content providers from among University faculty, staff, and students
● Manages the daily operation of the IR, including configuring IR software, adding and editing content, creating metadata, analyzing usage data, training other library staff in IR functions, developing workflows
● Maintains awareness of international and national standards for institutional repositories and metadata; recommends enhancements in software
● Coordinates and provides training in support of the IR on campus
● Creates and updates IR policies, procedures, and other necessary documentation
● Works with appropriate parties and staff to maintain and develop new functionality for the IR
● Participates in the overall management of Rod Library digital collections 
● Provides leadership in the adoption of best practices for repositories in copyright and scholarly communication
● Develops, implements, and maintains the Library’s scholarly communication programs and initiatives, including serving on the Library’s Scholarly Communications Committee
● Works with Library colleagues to develop education and outreach activities related to scholarly communication

Qualifications:
Required:
ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science or international equivalent; second graduate degree; familiarity with current trends and emerging issues regarding copyright, open access and scholarly communication; knowledge of current metadata schemas, standards, and digital content management systems; excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; academic library work experience.
Preferred:
Experience working directly with faculty in a university environment; previous experience working with digitization and/or archival documents; project management experience in a collaborative environment; experience with digital publishing tools, such as Digital Commons, CONTENTdm, Open Journal Systems, DSpace, and Fedora.

Brief Description of Duties: The Supervising Programmer/Analyst is responsible for managing the library systems administration and library’s technical infrastructure. The incumbent’s primary overall goals are to maintain a standard level of excellence for the library’s information technology infrastructure; improve the quality and continuity of end-user support services and integrate electronic resources and digital technologies into the library’s daily operations. The selected candidate will: 
Administer the library’s information technology infrastructure to facilitate electronic open source publishing, web services, institutional repository service and metadata architecture.
Innovate new methods of access to library data and collections, including a provision of services that feed information to the users of library information, where needed. This will include access to library collections via a variety of computing devices and interfaces.
Administration of the library’s integrated management system and automated catalog. Includes report generation for fiscal management of library acquisitions, customized programming for data management and coordination with SUNY-wide library standards required for improved access to state-wide library resources.
