LPC Blog

The Library Publishing Coalition Blog is used to share news and updates about the LPC and the Library Publishing Forum, to draw attention to items of interest to the community, and to publish informal commentaries by LPC members and friends.

Welcome to the inaugural Library Publishing Showcase Week! This week, we invite everyone to celebrate how library publishing supports authors, students, researchers, and scholarly communities by featuring impactful publications, partnerships, and services.

To kick off the celebration, we want to introduce you to Library Publishing Creates, the new advocacy website. For the last couple of years, the need for advocacy in support of library publishing has consistently surfaced in conversations with LPC members. As a community of practice, LPC isn’t well situated to perform direct advocacy, but we can provide our library publishers with the tools they need to advocate for themselves. Library Publishing Creates is our first step in that direction. It consists of three parts:

  • The home page is a fact sheet about library publishing centered on the things that library publishing creates: impact, learning opportunities, cost savings, and responsive services. This page is also available as a downloadable PDF
  • The Showcase section hosts all of the content produced for Library Publishing Showcase Week, organized by the four categories from the home page. It also features digest posts for smaller, themed groups of contributions, each with an original illustration by Jojo Karlin (a member of the Showcase Week Task Force).
  • The Tell Your Story page is still under construction, but it’s where we will share tools and resources to help library publishers make the case for their work locally.

Library Publishing Showcase Week 2026

The Library Publishing Coalition is happy to participate in the inaugural Library Publishing Showcase Week. We will send out an email each day this week highlighting programs and publications from around the LPC community which showcase how library publishing creates. Each day focuses on one of the four advocacy campaign categories:

  • Tuesday highlights library publishing impact. The showcase posts highlight two big categories of impact: opportunities for adding to the commons (aka the public domain) and innovation and adaptation which may not be available through traditional, commercial publishing avenues.
  • Wednesday celebrates the learning opportunities that uniquely emerge from library publishing programs, especially for students.
  • Thursday showcases specific publications and programs which help save their students, faculty, and institutions money, as well as some resources focused specifically on students’ savings through textbook costs.
  • Friday highlights the unique publications that emerge from library publishing’s ability to respond to the wants and needs of the community it supports, and showcases one specific need which seems to be especially suited to library publishing: music.

All Library Publishing Showcase Week content is already available on the Library Publishing Creates site, so explore away, or wait for the daily email to draw your attention to a subset of posts.

Even if you are not highlighted on Library Publishing Creates, we encourage you to celebrate Library Publishing Showcase Week! Share your project or program and highlight how it creates impact, learning opportunities, cost savings, and responsive services through local blog posts and social media using #libpubweek or #libpubshowcase. We’ve also created some badges you can use in your publicity.

Happy Library Publishing Showcase Week!
